FOOD AND NUTRITION NATIONAL CENTER (CENAN, CENTRO NACIONAL DE ALIMENTACIÓN Y NUTRICION)
The Food and Nutrition National Center (CENAN, CENTRO NACIONAL DE ALIMENTACIÓN Y NUTRICION), is the regulatory technical line center of the National Institute of Health manager to promote, plan, implement and evaluate research and development of appropriate technologies in the field of nutrition, human nutrition , sanitary control of food, beverages and others.
Is mandated by the state, in driving the nutritional surveillance system and conduct quality control of foods, especially of social programs, proposing actions that create healthy eating habits that contribute to a better lifestyle and harm reduction considered public health problems such as chronic malnutrition, anemia, related noncommunicable diseases styles and eating habits and inadequate nutrition.
As responsible for monitoring nutritional quality of food, coordinates with other public sectors such as MIMDES-PRONAA, Wawa Wasi, Local Government (like Vaso de Leche Program, PAN TB), Education, INEI and non-public agencies and Institutions of National and International Cooperation.
Permanently the Food and Nutrition National Center (CENAN, CENTRO NACIONAL DE ALIMENTACIÓN Y NUTRICION)designs, develops and validates technologies and culturally appropriate educational materials to indigenous people and the general public for the dissemination of healthy lifestyles.
Also, the Food and Nutrition National Center (CENAN, CENTRO NACIONAL DE ALIMENTACIÓN Y NUTRICION) encourages the development of research for public health impact, generating new scientific evidence aimed at improving policies and strategies for prevention and control related to food and nutrition of the Peruvian population, contributing to local, regional and national development.
In order to perform their activities, one of its main objectives is the development of its staff in line with new needs and problems of nutrition and public health, generating evidence-level regions and the incorporation, development and promotion of new technologies for research and production of strategic goods and related technology transfer.
El Food and Nutrition National Center (CENAN, CENTRO NACIONAL DE ALIMENTACIÓN Y NUTRICION) line performs its functions through Executive Offices:
a. Executive Direction of Food Science and Technology
Responsable for proposing, develop, regulate, evaluate and disseminate scientific and applied research in the field of food quality control, food and human nutrition. Also perform the quality control process and other food.
b. Executive Direction of Food and Nutrition Surveillance
Responsable for carrying out monitoring, monitoring and evaluation of food and nutrition situation of the Peruvian population.
c. Executive Direction of Risk and Injury Prevention Nutrition
Promote, plan, implement and evaluate research required in the nutritional field and to develop and validate technologies aimed at changing unhealthy behavior related to food and nutritional health the population, especially the population at greatest risk and vulnerability.
